Goehring reflects on year as NASDA president
The president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture is reflecting on his year of service.
North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says he’s served in leadership roles during tumultuous times before and he’s learned…“You need to take a deep breath, you need to listen to people, you need to not be reactionary and be thoughtful mindful of where everybody is at and try to make sure you’re developing something that addresses issues and concerns,” he says.
NASDA’s annual meeting, which typically takes place in the home state of the president, is virtual this year. Goehring says he was able to highlight North Dakota agriculture during the meeting, but it’s not like seeing it in person.
“It’s difficult to showcase your state when it really is a hidden treasure,” he says. “We produce 54 different commodities and with at least a dozen commodities we’re number one in the production of them in the United States.”
Goehring says he’s proud to be part of NASDA as the members continue to “design good policy and do good work that supports American agriculture.”
