Good fair and farm weather for mid-August
The recent rains and cooler temperatures are welcome at the Missouri State Fair and on the farm.
Drew Lock, a farmer from northeast Missouri, says it’s been unusually comfortable for the fair.
“Normally the fair is blazing hot. Anytime we get a rain that cool things off a bit, we’ll take it. The livestock like it. I don’t know if I’ve ever been to a state fair where it’s been this beautiful out.”
And back on the farm, Lock says the similar conditions are favorable for the soybeans.
“We never turn down an August rain.”
University of Missouri’s State Climatologist Zach Leasor tells Brownfield the average high temperature for this year’s fair has been 77.2 degrees Fahrenheit. He says the coldest stretch of weather for the fair, on average, was 77.6 degrees Fahrenheit back in 2004.
While we’ve been on pace to beat the record for the coldest Missouri State Fair, Leasor says he isn’t expecting that to happen as temperatures are forecast to warm back up in the 90s Wednesday and Thursday.
