Good week in Wisconsin fields
A little snow on Thursday night and some pretty cold temperatures by the end of the week but the harvest proceeded in Wisconsin last week. The National Ag Statistics Service Wisconsin Field Office reports that as of Sunday: 80 percent of the state’s soybeans have been combined, a 21 percent jump from a week ago and now just one point behind the five-year average.
There was some progress in the corn-for-grain, 33 percent harvested compared to 20 percent a week ago and 58 percent for the five-year average. Moisture content the main reason farmers are letting the corn stand and taking the beans. Corn is still in the 20’s and 30’s while beans are reported at 14 to 20 percent.
Some corn silage still being chopped with reports of a lot of tonnage and a lot of corn in the tonnage.
Topsoil moisture is listed as 83 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus.
