Governor Braun signs bill to create online farmer portal into law
A bill that establishes an online information portal for farmers has been signed into law.
Kendell Culp, Jasper County farmer and author of the bill, says it will put all rural government information in one place to simplify the process for producers.
“It creates an agriculture portal that will be housed in the State Department of Agriculture, so they’ll maintain that,” he says. “It will put all of the data, grant opportunities, the programs, any regulatory changes, that will all be housed in one location.”
He tells Brownfield local farmers were crucial in developing the legislation.
“This will be state and federal,” he says. “If there’s a rule out there and there’s public testimony, you’ll be able to log into the portal and access it from there. It really is going to make it, we think, a lot simplier to have that one stop shopping.”
This was the first agriculture bill signed into law by Indiana Governor Mike Braun during this year’s legislative session.
