Governor Mike Parson honored with naming of new Meat Sciences Lab

The University of Missouri Board of Curators has voted to name the developing meat sciences laboratory on the MU campus after former Governor Mike Parson.

The new building’s name will be the Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory.

Board of Curators Chair Todd Graves says the board voted to honor a true champion of the state’s greatest industry.  The laboratory will further enhance the capabilities of the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). It will provide new tools and technology for leaders and workers in the meat processing industry.

Parson, a third-generation cattleman, said, “I can think of few greater honors than to have my name on a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to teaching and training Missouri’s next generation of meat farmers.”

In 2023 and 2024, Parson signed budget bills that included a combined $35 million for the facility that will now bear his name.
