Grain bin clean out causes delays at local processor

Mid-Missouri farmer Jay Fischer says it’s been difficult to deliver corn to the local feed mill ahead of harvest.

“We have about 45,000 bushels of corn that was supposed to be delivered this month and we can’t get into Cargill, because they’re full every week by Wednesday.”

He says the feed mill has been overwhelmed with farmers cleaning old crop out of grain bins.

“We had an August/September contract and out of 45 loads, we only have 5 delivered.”

He says if new crop corn is ready to harvest in early September, rather than delivering the rest of the old crop corn out of the bin to the mill…

“We may have to harvest the new crop and take it straight to town, maybe deliver those contracts right off the combine.”

Fischer says corn prices could be better, but it’s a much better crop than this time last year with corn starting to dry down in parts of Missouri.
