Grassley: beef imports aren’t the answer to high meat prices

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is criticizing the Trump administration for temporarily easing restrictions on imported beef.
“Americans should have access to safe and affordable meat, but the best way to lower beef prices is not through imported beef.”
The Iowa Republican says with the smallest cattle herd in 75 years, U.S. beef producers need the tools and market signals to grow.
“That means working to increase grazing access, cut inspection costs, and expand processing to reduce reliance on the big four meatpackers.”
Grassley says the decision to allow an additional 300,000 metric tons of imported beef adds to the uncertainty farmers and ranchers are facing.
