Grassley critical of EPA draft Insecticide Strategy
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is echoing concerns of ag stakeholders that have submitted public comments critical of EPA’s draft Insecticide Strategy.
The Iowa Republican says those groups are urging EPA to redo its practice for pesticides.
“They also asserted the EPA was overregulating by setting policies based on worst-case scenarios rather than real world data. Now that shouldn’t come as a shock to anybody who knows Washington.”
The draft strategy identifies protections EPA will consider when it registers a new insecticide or reevaluates an existing one.
Grassley says the proposed rule would form what’s called “pesticide use limitation areas” depending on the location of endangered species.
“The Fish and Wildlife Service would update the limitations, but farmers would be on the hook for more administrative tasks on the ground.”
The public comment period on EPA’s draft Insecticide Strategy ends September 23rd.
