Grassley critical of EPA over used cooking oil imports

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is criticizing the EPA for how it verifies the integrity of used cooking oil imports.

The Iowa Republican says the agency recently revealed it relies on foreign records to prove the product meets Renewable Fuel Standard requirements.

“However, EPA can independently or definitively determine the authenticity of the product. The EPA shouldn’t resort to blind faith when determining the validity of foreign feedstocks.”

Especially when 40 percent of the supply comes from China, he says.

“My Senate colleagues and I are still waiting for a response to our December letter further requesting EPA’s ability to verify used cooking oil imports.”

Grassley says he plans to discuss the issue with President-elect Trump’s nominee for EPA administrator, Lee Zeldin.
