Grassley & Ernst: President Trump rejects ethanol blending deal

Both of Iowa’s U.S. Senators are applauding President Donald Trump’s apparent rejection of proposed changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Both Chuck Grassley and Joni Earnst posted Twitter messages Tuesday evening expressing their pleasure with Trump’s decision.  Grassley tweeted, “@realDonaldTrump Pres Trump helped farmers by rejecting bad ethanol deal. I appreciate. GREAT NEWS” and Ernst tweeted, “@realDonaldTrump has said he “looovves the farmers!” #Iowa is feeling that love today, as the President just assured me he “won’t sign a deal that’s bad for farmers!” Thank you, Mr. President!”

The renewable fuels industry has been critical of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt for granting blending waivers to oil refiners and suggesting RIN credits be allowed for ethanol exports.  Industry leaders want billions of gallons worth of blending obligations re-allocated to stop the destruction of demand.
