Grassley, Klobuchar ask EPA to raise RVOs

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says the U.S. EPA needs to raise Renewable Volume Obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard.

“Under the Biden administration, RVO levels were set extremely low. As a result, we saw many biodiesel plants idled over the past two years.”

The Iowa Republican says he’s joined a letter with Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar asking EPA administrator Lee Zeldin to raise RVO levels to 5.3 billion gallons per year.

“In our letter, we also called on EPA to put out a multi-year rule that will give certainty to the biofuels and agriculture industries moving forward.”

Grassley says some biodiesel facilities are suffering.

“A biodiesel plant in Sac County (Iowa) announced just last week it was laying off 25% of its workforce due to regulatory uncertainty.”

Geoff Cooper, CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, recently told Brownfield he expects an announcement from EPA in the next two months.
