Grassley says Boozman framework puts “farm” back in farm bill

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley remains pessimistic about the farm bill getting done this year despite recent progress in the Senate Ag Committee.

Ranking Member John Boozman released the GOP framework Tuesday, which Grassley says puts more “farm” in the farm bill.

“Now, when it comes to whether we need a farm bill or not, I’m often one to say that we probably won’t be getting a farm bill this year. But I’m also first to say that farmers need a farm bill this year, and the certainty that goes with it.”

He tells Brownfield Boozman’s proposal aligns with the framework put forward by House Ag Committee Chair Glenn GT Thompson.

“And I think the success of the House Chairman putting together a bipartisan bill gives impetus to what we need to do in the United States Senate.”

Grassley says many of the provisions he has favored to strengthen crop insurance are included in Senator Boozman’s farm bill.
