Grassley says farmer assistance talks have gone quiet
The status of financial assistance for farmers from the Trump administration remains unclear.
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was asked by Brownfield Tuesday morning what he’s hearing on potential payments.
“Not enough. And hearing less than we did a few weeks ago on the $10 to $14 billion that they were planning to do.”
The Iowa Republican says Congress would have to appropriate funds because there’s not enough money in the Commodity Credit Corporation.
“I’m not on the appropriations committee so I can’t tell you how it’s moving forward. But I don’t hear any effort from the administration that they’re not still considering doing that.”
U.S. Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins has said an announcement on farmer aid from the USDA should be made soon.
