U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says President Trump has tools available to help strengthen the ag economy.

The Iowa Republican says he’s asking the president to look into fertilizer tariffs.

“He could take tariffs off all fertilizers coming into the United States as one way of helping the family farmer, and in turn, helping get the price of food down.”

Grassley says the administration has prioritized reducing fuel prices, which has provided some relief.

“(Trump) should get credit for it because his energy policies has as much to getting it down.”

He says inflation is trending in the right direction.

“We have to remember that starting in 2022, inflation went to 9%. That was higher than anything going back 50 years to the Carter administration. It’s down now to 2.6%.”

Grassley made his comments during a press call with ag reporters on Tuesday.
