Grassley sees momentum in USMCA talks, welcomes Mexico trade progress

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is encouraged by recent comments by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer concerning the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

The Iowa Republican says renewing USMCA would bring stability to agriculture.

“I know that renewal is up in the air, but I know there are a lot of negotiations going on right now. I heard (USTR) Greer on television last night saying there was considerable progress made with Mexico over the last week.”

During his weekly call with ag reporters Tuesday, Grassley said reducing uncertainty would ease pressure on ag markets.

“And this uncertainty will go away just as soon as USMCA negotiations are complete.”

Grassley says he’s also pleased with USDA’s phased reopening of the border to allow live cattle imports from Mexico.
