Groups launch Plant Based Products Council

A group of businesses and agricultural and environmental leaders have come together to form the Plant Based Products Council.

John Bode, president and CEO of the Corn Refiners Association, says the council will seek more sustainable consumer products and packaging by encouraging the use of renewable materials and feedstocks.  

“The idea is to have a collaboration to define private sector programs and government policies that will encourage adoption of renewable materials that advance the environmental objectives,” he says.

The council says it will promote policies to reduce carbon emissions, improve water quality and soil health, and reduce waste in landfills.

Bode tells Brownfield it’s no surprise agriculture is involved in the effort.

“American agriculture is making tremendous progress in sustainability,” he says.

Founding council members include Archer Daniels Midland, Cargill, Tate and Lyle, Ingredion, and more.
