Growers anticipate intermittent fruit loss

A mid-Michigan apple grower expects little damage from hard freeze events last week.

Sara Reisinger with Leaman’s Green Apple Barn near Midland tells Brownfield trees are not in bloom yet in her region unlike their counterparts in the southwest.

“In the farming industry there are a lot of risks and there are a lot of things we can’t control—weather is one of them—so we pray, and we hope for the best for our crop,” she says.

She expects trees to start blooming in the next week and will be able to better evaluate losses at that time.
