Growth Energy discusses state of ethanol exports
The director of global policy for Growth Energy says she has high expectations for U.S. ethanol exports this year.
Emily Marthaler tells Brownfield exports ended 2024 on a high note. “We saw a record export year for U.S. ethanol at almost 2 billion gallons. That was a historical marker for the U.S. industry.”
She says that momentum has carried over into 2025. “January is the most recent data we have. It was a big start to the year, and hopefully we’ll see continued growth.”
Marthaler says Canada continues to be the top customer of U.S. ethanol, but there are several other markets to keep an eye on. “Japan has been one we’ve focused a lot on. Indonesia and the Philippines are growing in terms of their gasoline usage and their population.”
She says Vietnam is another emerging market. The U.S. ethanol industry recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s largest petroleum distributor that promotes the usage of U.S. ethanol within the country.
