Growth Energy’s Skor outlines SAF uncertainties, need for 45Z

The CEO of Growth Energy says sustainable aviation fuel has an uncertain future.

Emily Skor says SAF discussions gained some steam in 2024, but it hasn’t been a focus of the incoming Trump administration. “The tone of the conversation certainly is going to change in terms of the federal government because (SAF) is not a stated priority.”

She tells Brownfield there continues to be a push for the fuel in many countries. “I spent a lot of time in Southeast Asia this fall. There is a global conversation on sustainable aviation fuel. That will continue.”

Skor says she remains hopeful sustainable aviation fuel tax credits, like 45Z, will continue under the new administration to help ensure more SAF gallons in the future.

“If we look at the export market opportunities, if we look at the fact that airlines and their commitments haven’t changed in terms of them wanting to have sustainable aviation fuel, those market signals are going to continue in the mid-to-long term,” she said. “We want to make sure we are poised to compete in those future markets.”
