Growth in farmland values is slowing

A senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City says growth in farmland values has slowed.

Cortney Cowley tells Brownfield…

“That means that you could buy a treasury bond or or invest in a lower risk entity and make more money on it than buying farmland,” she says.

She says it may only be temporary.

“The rate of growth on farm real estate values declined fairly substantially and you would expect to see that when interest rates increase,” she says. “But in the past, we hadn’t really seen that all that much. Farmland remains a really good investment.”

Cowley says farmland values continue to rise, just at a slower pace than recent years.
