Guebert highlights Illinois Farm Bureau achievements

Illinois Farm Bureau President Rich Guebert tells Brownfield he’s extremely proud of the of the organization’s efforts to protect ag sales tax exemptions on inputs and farm machinery from a progressive income tax bill which he says would have been detrimental to the state’s economy.

“As you look at our neighboring states all around us, they have that luxury of sales tax exemption.”

During this year’s annual meeting, Guebert expects energy issues to also regain importance.

“A number of our members are concerned about private property rights when it comes to solar, they are concerned about any setbacks, and then the decommissioning of these farms whenever their lifespan is completed.”

Illinois Farm Bureau is laying the groundwork for 2023 Farm Bill discussions with nearly 20 listening sessions held this past year.  Guebert adds to address supply chain issues, the organization has also donated $100,000 for CDL driver scholarships.

Brownfield’s Nicole Heslip interviewed Guebert during the 2021 IFB Annual Meeting in Chicago.
