About half of U.S. dairy farmers enrolled in MPP
USDA says about half of the nation’s dairy producers have signed-up for the Margin Protection Program. More than 23,000 producers registered by the December 19th deadline and indications are a number of them took advantage of the two-week signup extension as milk prices were declining.
The total amount of milk production enrolled in the program, the number of producers enrolled by state and a breakdown of the level of coverage is not yet available from USDA. Producers could choose from the $4 minimum basic margin protection up to $8 per hundredweight.
