Hard freeze, strong winds headed for Delta region

Delta farms can expect strong winds and freezing temperatures as a winter storm moves east across the US this week.

Brownfield meteorologist Greg Soulje says there will be a hard, killing freeze throughout the delta region lasting up to three days.

“Probably by Saturday morning temperatures will be between 25 and 30 degrees and dropping from there with readings as low as maybe 15 to 20 degrees come Christmas morning perhaps even into Monday morning as well. And any way you want to look at it there will be a night or two at least of temperatures down somewhere in that mid-teen to low 20-degree range.”

He says temperatures will be exacerbated by 30-40 mile per hour winds. “That will be the snapshot we see here between late Thursday night and Friday. Winds won’t completely wind down until daybreak on Saturday.”

He says areas of the Delta will receive some rain from the storm beginning Wednesday into Thursday and the northern delta region may get some light snow.
