Harvest picks up in Kentucky

Soybean harvest gets underway in Kentucky and corn harvest picks up steam.  

Corn harvest is 8% complete and 48% mature with 70% rated good to excellent.  Soybean harvest is 1% complete with 17% dropping leaves and 69% rated good to excellent. Temperatures have varied from very hot to mild and in areas that have battled heavy rains, disease is a concern.

Tobacco is 64% cut and 95% topped with 57% housed.  

Pasture conditions declined to 62% good to excellent as there has been limited rainfall and some above-average temperatures.  Hay yields have varied and producers are optimistic milder temperatures will be beneficial and ease stress on grazing grounds.

Topsoil is 62% and subsoil is 64% adequate to surplus.
