Harvest six weeks out in Michigan
A southern Michigan farmer is surprised how well his crops have come through drought conditions.
Paul Pridgeon went six weeks without rain just after planting.
“If I have to experience a drought in Michigan though, June is probably the best time for me to do it,” he shares. “We were fortunate enough that we had good germination, enough to get plants established, and they really weathered it.”
The Branch County farmer tells Brownfield field conditions starting August are pretty good.
“We’ve had a lot of rain that’s come through in the last two weeks, probably a little bit too much rain, but in August, that’s when beans are made so we’re hopeful for a good harvest,” he says.
Pridgeon says he expects to start harvest in about six weeks.
