Harvest variable in parts of Upper Midwest
An agronomist says harvest is picking up steam in parts of the Upper Midwest.
Jared Goplen covers northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and eastern South Dakota for Wyffels Hybrids. “A lot of the corn that’s been taken out is still in the 22% or higher range. A lot of that stuff was maybe on lighter ground, earlier hybrids, or maybe farmers trying to get into an early ethanol contract. As we get into Minnesota, I think a lot of beans will be coming out of the fields this week.”
He tells Brownfield crop conditions have been variable. “I think there’s going to be some really great crops in some areas and there’s going to be poor stuff in other areas. I think most farmers more or less know those areas already.”
Goplen says there could also be some surprises. “I’ve heard some silage appraisals up over 300 bushels an acre.”
He says now is a good time for growers to check stalk integrity.
