Harvest wrap-up: Missouri farmer reports good corn, ok soybeans

Northeast Missouri farmer Drew Lock says the fall harvest and fieldwork are almost wrapped up.

“Looks like with the weather coming in, fall fieldwork might be done whether we wanted it to be done or not. Will it be cold or will we have snow? Maybe we’ll just kind of have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.”

Lock says anhydrous and most of the dry fertilizer has been applied and while he could plant more cover crops “I’m comfortable with where we’re at.”

Lock raises cattle, corn and soybeans in southern Adair and northern Macon Counties.

“We knew we were gonna see lower soybean yields. That being said, we were still good corn yields were well above our average.”

In USDA’s final harvest update of the season, the agency suggests soybean harvest is completed in Missouri and corn harvest is 96 percent complete.

He says some soybeans were sold at harvest, with more contracted next year and he’s waiting to sell the corn.
