Having a voice in establishing the organization’s policy
The policy that drives the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association begins with the states.
Kim Brackett, NCBA Policy Chair, says the grassroots process is the bedrock of the organization. “Many of our state cattle associations have their conventions in the late fall, early winter where they develop resolutions that they want to discuss at the NCBA CattleCon this week,” she says. “We’ve been having those resolutions roll in over the past month.”

One of the resolutions that will be heard this week came from the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association. President-elect Anita Vanderwert says the policy would encourage the USDA to take a more regional approach to risk management programs.
“Trying to make sure that anytime USDA comes with these farm programs, NCBA has a chance to review those policies,” she says. “And we need to be able to have a seat at the table and to be able to give input on those.”

Policy discussions will happen in committees throughout the week and members will finalize the association’s priorities on Thursday.
