Hawley questions top fertilizer companies on price spikes

A U.S. Senator from Missouri has contacted five of the largest fertilizer producers in the United States to ensure fairness in the market.

Through letters, Josh Hawley questioned CF Industries, the Mosaic Company, Koch Fertilizer, Nutrien and Yara International, about the sudden rise in fertilizer prices in the past two weeks. He asked if the companies were price gouging or manipulating markets during the Iran conflict.

Hawley said Congress will scrutinize any company that exploit overseas conflict to justify prices, and the companies should be transparent by providing more details about price changes, inventory levels and pricing strategies to him by the end of March.

He said U.S. farmers deserve fair dealing, not exploitation.

Hawley says he also set a letter to the U.S. Attorney General. Read the letters.

He’s a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, overseeing antitrust and competition issues and possible market manipulation.
