Heavy rainfall could cause river levels to keep rising
Iowa’s climatologist says the recent flooding in the Upper Midwest has caused devastating damage to many farming operations.
Justin Glisan with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the impacts have been widespread. “We’ve heard of livestock losses,” he said. “We’ve had some farmers in north central and northwestern Iowa have to replant already given wet conditions earlier in the growing season, and now those fields are covered in water.”
He tells Brownfield river levels could keep rising due to the current weather outlook. “We are seeing higher probabilities of significant and heavy rainfall for southern Minnesota and basically the (whole) state of Iowa.”
Glisan says the final July climatological outlooks from the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center show slightly elevated chances of warmer temperatures over southern Iowa and a wetter signal statewide.
