Hemp producers facing profitability challenges
Midwestern hemp producers are tailoring their products to increase profitability.
Nebraska hemp grower and consultant Colin Fury tells Brownfield the lack of large-scale processors is forcing growers to have a more hands-on experience. “A lot of farmers have fun with it. They’re used to dropping their grains off at the co-op, taking their hay to the sale barn and being done with it where they are having fun creating their product lines.”
Fury says the CBD crude oil market is saturated, and growers need to diversify their offerings. “You are having to make the investment in your product, you’re going to have to figure it out because there is so much oil in the market place. Do I want to be in the business of face balms, do I want to be in the business of kinesiology tape, do I want to do topicals?
Fury says creating a consumer-driven market creates more opportunity for growers.
