High beef prices changing consumer buying habits

Brownfield's Kellan Heavican interviews Tracey Erikson with Certified Angus Beef during NCBA's 2026 Young Cattleman's Conference.

A member of Certified Angus Beef says high beef prices are causing consumers to shift their purchasing habits.

Tracey Erickson, senior executive vice president, says demand for ground beef is at an all-time high because of its price and “A burger isn’t just a burger anymore. You have so many options to have a casual burger and have a pretty fancy experience around that. Protein is a staple within the diet.”

She tells Brownfield the industry is helping consumers feel confident about preparing beef. “Our brand focuses a lot on having content that helps consumers know what to do with that cut. We know the worse thing is for a person to try a new cut and have a bad experience. We know all cuts don’t preform the same.”

Erickson says education is a critical part in ensuring that consumers have a positive eating experience and continue to choose beef.
