High costs pressure poultry producers
High costs continue to pressure poultry producers.
Andrew Wendlandt with Compeer Financial says post-COVID inflation has been a challenge.
“Costs of materials, cost of birds to bring in, everything has gone up so substantially. We looked the other day (and) it’s something in the neighborhood of almost 45 percent in total cost increase over the past four years.”
Wendlandt is based in central Minnesota and tells Brownfield integrators are trying to help growers stay in business.
“They call it like a COVID relief payment essentially, and what they’re doing with that is just trying to offset these higher building costs and retain their same production standards and numbers.”
Wendlandt says poultry production in his area consists mostly of broilers, with more of the turkey production to the south and west.
