High hopes for year-round E-15 in lame duck
Industry leaders have high hopes that the current lame duck session of Congress will see action on legislation enacting nationwide year-round E-15.
John Fuhr, director of government affairs with Growth Energy, says proposals in both chambers have far-reaching support.
“You have a new coalition that’s kind of formed together.” He says, “Where you have a lot of the petroleum supply chain really interested in solving this solution once and forever. I think it’s because they realize it’s not a bad fuel. It makes sense for consumers. It’s lower cost. It performs just fine, if not better, in vehicles.”
Kenneth Hartman, Jr., Illinois farmer and president of the National Corn Growers Association, tells Brownfield…
“This is something that Congress can pass that doesn’t cost money. It’s just a policy.” He says, “It’s gonna help markets because at a filling station, E-15 is 10 to 20 cents cheaper. At the same time, it’s great for the environment. It’s here now, and farmers got plenty of corn so we can produce plenty of ethanol.”
Fuhr says eight midwestern states already have access to year-round E-15, so expanding the access nationwide makes logistical sense as well.
