High input prices concerning with low commodity prices, farmer says

Southwest Iowa farmer Jeff Jorgenson says the supply of inputs has improved over the last year, but some prices remain elevated.

“I think there’s been some things that have happened in the past couple of years with tariffs and other issues around the globe that have caused us to sit where we’re at. I think we jumped to a little too much of a plateau and now it’s just taking too long to tail off.”

He tells Brownfield some farmers have had to make tough decisions. “There was a lot of dry fertilizer that was applied just in the last month that I saw locally, and I think there was a lot of guys that were kind of on the fence on how much they were going to do and what they wanted to purchase.”

Jorgenson says lower agricultural commodity prices have had an impact on some of his purchases.
