Highland Co. Farm Bureau steps to the plate
When Highland County Farm Bureau member Nathan Brown found out that local emergency response personnel didn’t have equipment to deal with a grain bin rescue, he and fellow board member Dave Bushelman organized a campaign to raise money to equip emergency responders with the needed equipment and training.
“The amount of support we got was overwhelming,” said Bushelman. “The first day we went out, there were five of us board members, we went out and we had like $10,000 the first day.”
Nathan Brown, who serves as the Highland County Farm Bureau Vice President says since December over $40,000 has been raised, enough to build and equip two grain bin rescue trailers and provide training for the 34 members of the Grain Bin Rescue team.
“The guys on that team all jumped in,” Brown said. “They’re outgoing guys and they want to learn and that’s the biggest thing is wanting to learn and picking up that extra skill set to be able to do this and everyone that’s on our team has that quality.”
