Hinson calls for action on rising input costs, targets phosphate fertilizer duties

U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says Congress needs to find solutions to rising input costs facing farmers and ranchers.

“The ag economy is under real strain,” she said during a press call late last week. “Producers are doing everything right, but they are still getting squeezed by high input costs that just aren’t coming down. Fertilizer is at the center of that challenge.”

The Iowa Republican says countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizer are narrowing supply choices for producers.

“Since 2021, countervailing duties on phosphate imports have increased costs for American farmers by nearly $7 billion. Those are the costs that are hitting producers at the worst possible time.”

Hinson says she’s calling on her Congressional colleagues to take action that would help increase competition.

“I’m committed to working with anyone, Republican or Democrat, who wants to lower those input costs, strengthen competition, and deliver real relief to our farmers.”

Earlier this spring, more than 60 ag groups asked the U.S. Department of Commerce to revoke countervailing duty orders on imports of phosphate fertilizer from Morocco and Russia.

  • Interesting choice of topic since what she’s saying is complete BS. Want to solve the fertilizer (and gas )crisis? Simple. Stop this inane war and open up the Straits of Hormuz.

How about it, congresswoman? Break with your dear leader and oppose this stupid war and you just may be elected senator. Or you can stay scared and lose to Turek. Fertilizer’s in your court.
