Hinson lauds USDA, USTR amid Mexican GM corn dispute
U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says she’s optimistic Mexico’s ban on genetically modified corn imports could be overturned before the end of the year.
“We will continue to push and make sure that there is hopefully the outcome we’re wanting for our producers.”
In a press call Thursday, she suggested the upcoming U.S. Presidential Election could be a turning point. “If there is an administration change, that may be motivation for them to hurry up and make a decision here.”
Hinson tells Brownfield USDA and the office of the U.S. Trade Representative have held strong in their arguments. “I feel like they’ve done what they need to do in terms of pushing back against Mexico and their attempt to circumvent our policies and trade agreements.”
Mexico’s ban was issued in early 2023 and the U.S. Trade Representative filed a dispute settlement under the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement last August.
