U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says farmers and consumers need relief from higher fuel prices.

“The cost of living is way too high,” she said Tuesday. “We know families are getting squeezed.”

The Iowa Republican says expanding the availability of higher ethanol blends could be a solution.

“I think about ethanol and E15 as being a great option here to immediately provide that relief to our consumers,” Hinson said. “It’s what I’ve been advocating for for years, but have renewed that call to the administration.”

President Trump has said he’ll sign E15 legislation if Congress can get it to his desk. Hinson says the president has taken other steps to help lower consumer expenses.

“He’s made some changes to the ‘Buy America’ requirements to lower costs,” she said. “I think it’s temporarily helpful.”

Hinson says the president’s actions have come in response to the conflict in Iran.
