Hinson remains optimistic on new farm bill

A U.S. Representative from Iowa says she’s encouraged by farm bill progress in Congress.

Republican Ashley Hinson tells Brownfield she’s optimistic a new five-year farm bill can get completed before the current extension expires in September.

“We’re talking about the need to make sure certainty is in place with crop insurance programs, the trade expansions through (MAP), and then of course my vital piece of legislation to push back on Prop 12 in California.”

She says the Senate has also been stepping up farm bill work in recent weeks.

“It is encouraging to me that the Senate is actually moving forward on a farm bill. In the last Congress, they didn’t even put out a draft. I think that set us back by not only months but years.”

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, a Republican from Kansas, recently told Brownfield a new farm bill will likely get done by the August recess.
