A U.S. Representative from Iowa says adjustments to the USMCA trade agreement should be considered during this summer’s reauthorization process.

Republican Ashley Hinson tells Brownfield crop and livestock producers have benefited from the deal, but, “I know there’s been challenges with dairy and other products,” she said. “Some of the issues surrounding corn, and some of the conditions that our trading partners are putting on our corn.”

Hinson adds that discussions impacting poultry producers are being monitored.

“Certainly watching what happens with chickens and eggs,” she said, “because we do need to make sure we have a fair deal there that perhaps looks at some of the challenges facing our producers with avian influenza.”

The USMCA joint review process is scheduled to begin in July.
