Hoosier farmers see a 28 percent increase in cash receipts

A 28 percent increase in cash receipts to an estimated $9.9 billion dollars in 2008 for all agricultural commodities sold, has moved Indiana to the 8th positionnationally.

According to the Indiana field office of the National Ag Statistics Service, of the $9.9 billion, $7.2 billion or 72 percent came from crops, $2.8 billion or 28 percent came from the sale of livestock and livestock products.

Nationally,preliminary cash receipts totaled $321.6 billion in 2008, up 13 percent from a year earlier.
