Hopkins FFA member named Star Farmer

This year’s Michigan FFA Star Farmer says his Supervised Agricultural Experience has helped him better understand the business aspects of farming.

Hopkins FFA’s Colby Tucker tells Brownfield, “My operation is a lot like my parents’ farm.”

“We keep track of all the numbers, all the income, all the expenses, like feed and hay,” he says.

Tucker is a second generation FFA member and is currently raising 10 cows and 20 ewes on his own.

“Getting a little more knowledge every single time I would go into the classroom about different stuff in agriculture really broadens my skill set,” he says.

Tucker is serving as his chapter president and the Region I Treasurer. He says he’d like to study manufacturing, engineering, and technology in college.
