Hormel Foods acquiring Skippy®

Hormel Foods, the maker of SPAM, says it is purchasing the Skippy® peanut butter line from Unilever for about $700 million. Skippy is the second leading brand of peanut butter in the U.S. and the leading brand in China. It is also sold in more than 30 other countries. The acquisition is pending regulatory approval. The Skippy brand has been around since 1932.

Hormel notes that peanut butter is the second most popular sandwich in the U.S.  Ham is the first. Ham is an ingredient in SPAM.
