How farmers can manage risk
An Ohio State extension educator says farmers should be more prepared when it comes to risk management.
Beth Sheckelhoff says the first step is to define the risk.
“For example, you know if you are growing grain crops, you know the weather is a perfect example right now as we are experiencing extreme drought,” she says. “We can’t control that, but how do we kind of minimize the effects of that?”
She tells Brownfield…
“Unless you know and can stop and identify the risks that are that you’re facing, you really don’t know how to address them,” she says. “We’re really trying to help people understand risk and then look at ways that they can minimize that risk on their operation.”
Brownfield interviewed Sheckelhoff during the 2024 Farm Science Review in London, Ohio.
