How to maximize profitability in a tough ag economy

A market development agronomist at WinField United says growers should use a whole-acre approach to maximize their yield potential in the tough ag economy.

Isaac Anderson says farmers should be cost aware.

“Having a comprehensive plan creates predictability,” he says. “When we’re in a depressed commodity market like we are now and doesn’t have the most optimistic outlook for a commodity rally into 2025. You need to know what your output is likely going to be.”

He tells Brownfield seed is one of the largest expenses for farmers.

“Getting that seed off to a healthy start, up and out of the ground, is essential to getting your maximum yield potential,” he says. “There’s different industry and university data that indicate a significant percentage of our yield potential is determined at planting.”

Anderson says farmers should sit down with local crop advisors and review their farm management plan for 2025.

Brownfield interviewed Anderson at the 2024 National Association of Farm Broadcasting Convention in Kansas City, Missouri.
