HPAI detected in Iowa commercial pullet flock

Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed within a commercial pullet flock in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the detection occurred in Buena Vista County and approximately 400,000 pullets will be depopulated.

The department says this is the state’s sixth detection of H5N1 HPAI within domestic birds since the start of the year.

State Ag Secretary Mike Naig says any poultry producers that suspect signs of avian flu within their flocks should contact their veterinarian immediately.
