HPAI in Ottawa County commercial poultry

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed another case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Ottawa County.

The state says the commercial flock is the county’s third detection of the virus during October and the fifth case since the beginning of the year.

The virus has only been confirmed in West Michigan during this fall migration, while the number of cases increases in northern Indiana.

Ottawa County has one of the largest commercial poultry populations in the state, making biosecurity efforts especially important.
