Humphreys: Senate shouldn’t ignore rural America on Prop 12
The CEO of the National Pork Producers Council is confident Congress will pass legislation addressing Proposition 12.
Bryan Humphreys says NPPC staff have been in discussions with members of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
“When we sit down and have an honest face-to-face conversation about the issues at hand and the disruption a patchwork could cause, we make significant progress.”
He expects the Senate to pass a farm bill this year and says it should include a Prop 12 fix.
“Because that’s what rural America needs. And that’s what American agriculture needs and that’s what the U.S. pork industry needs. And at the end of the day, I see no reason for the U.S. Senate to ignore rural America.
Humphreys made his comments during a National Pork Producers Council policy panel at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines Wednesday.
