Huntington University agriculture visits Guatemala
A professor at Huntington University says expanding access to healthy food options was one of the priorities of a recent mission trip to Guatemala.
Jessica Graves says graduate students were helping farmers find long-term solutions.
“Rabbits, poultry projects and also some larger greenhouses as we partnered with some of the local farmers there on greenhouse construction activities,” she says.
She tells Brownfield access to clean water and food is scarce.
“Food preservation techniques, training, and educating the locals on food preservation techniques,” she says. “This is not something people have access to.”
Graves says this was the first university mission to the country, and students were helping residents address the country’s immediate food security needs.
